Cottenham Fun Run 2015 – A great day for a run

There was quite a buzz at Cottenham Village College on Saturday 2 May from early morning as stalls were set up and adults and children came to register for the two events in the Cottenham Fun Run 2015. As they were putting their names down and paying their fees, a group of Year 5 boys and girls played their ukuleles under the direction of music teachers Barbara Duckworth and Helen West. This project, to introduce all Year 5 children to the simple but rewarding instrument, was chosen as the beneficiary of the annual Cottenham Fun Run which is sponsored by the Fen Edge Community Association and Malary. After costs were covered, the Cottenham Primary School ukulele fund received £200.

The organiser of the Cottenham Fun Run 2015, Martyn Leeks, reported that the main 7k race attracted 80 adults and 21 children. 95 primary school children entered and completed the junior race of about a mile. You can see the results here. He also thanked everyone involved – Fen Edge Community Association trustee Rebecca Cole, the marshalls, registrars, 2nd Cottenham Scouts and their leaders and helpers, and Cottenham Primary School who help make the Cottenham Fun Run happen.
