Running for Fun in the Cottenham Fun Run 2016
Cottenham Fun Run 2016 which took place at Cottenham Village College and through Cottenham village on 7 May was a great success. It was the weekend of Twinning – when families from Avrille in France visited – and some took part in the race.
The schoolchildren set off first, 62 of them running the 1mile route round the back of the college. Later, the sun shone on the 112 runners (69 adults and 43 children) in the 7km race round the village.
There was a carnival atmosphere on the college green where stalls were set up by Fen Edge Community Association members: Cottenham Theatre Workshop, Cottenham Ladybird Pre-School, Cottenham Women’s Institute, Cottenham Gardeners’ Club and Cottenham Community Centre. Entry fees raised about £700. In due course this will be donated to Cottenham Primary School; they propose to purchase new library books.
Fen Edge Community Association would like to thank Martyn Leeks for organising the event and for Malary Ltd, waste recycling solutions, for its support through sponsorship.
The winners and runners up of the Cottenham Fun Run 2016 in all categories (Primary girl and boy; Village College girl and boy; Adult male and female; Veteran/45+ male and female) were:
