Cottenham Fun Run 2025 – the results are in!

Saturday 10th May saw the return of the ever popular Cottenham7K Fun Run with a safer and mainly off-road route and the start and finish taking place directly outside the Village Hall.

The weather was glorious with not a cloud in the sky. Race registration began at 08:30 and  over 100 children headed for the top field on the Recreation Ground to take part in the Junior Fun Run.

The volunteer marshals from ROCStars (Runners of Cottenham) and Cottenham Colts were briefed and made their way to their positions around the 7K course. Local fitness instructor, Ben Smith of Cambridge Fitness Academy, led the warm up and nearly 90 runners of all ages lined up for the start.

Just before the start, Jasper Kay, the originator of the first Cottenham Fun Run back in the 1980s celebrated the continued running of the event and wished all of the competitors well, and then at 10.00am Jasper sounded the air-horn and the runners were off.

All of the runners embraced the challenge and within 25 minutes the first runner was starting to re-enter the Recreation Ground. The support from the spectators was fantastic and there was a real community atmosphere. The runners also reported good support along the route too in Cottenham and Rampton.

Once again we are indebted to Malary Ltd waste recycling solutions for their ever generous support and sponsorship. The Fun Run raised valuable funds for the community as all proceeds, after costs, will be donated to the fund for installing a new 3G pitch at Cottenham Village College.

The first home in each category were:
1st Senior Male – Sam Stratford 24:54
1st Senior Female – Rosanna Nix 29:49

Well done to them, and to ALL of the entrants who made the Run what it has been 40 years – FUN!
