Cottenham Theatre Workshop – The Importance of having a Spring Show

For our Spring production this year, we’re performing Oscar Wilde’s classic – ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’.

The play is the story of two bachelors, John ‘Jack’ Worthing, and Algernon ‘Algy’ Moncrieff, who create alter egos named Ernest to escape their tiresome lives. They attempt to win the hearts of two women who, conveniently, claim to only love men called Ernest.

Working within the social conventions of late Victorian London, the play’s major themes are the triviality with which it treats institutions as serious as marriage and the resulting satire of Victorian ways.

Directed by our long-term member and friend, Helen McCallum – this show promises to serve up a myriad of laughs and will definitely include an infamous handbag!

The show(s) will run from Wednesday 6 April to Saturday 9 April at Cottenham Village College. Performances begin at 7.30pm.
