Pantomime time in Cottenham

Time is drawing near for the new production of the Cottenham Theatre Workshop at the Cottenham Village College: a traditional favourite, Cinderella, which is sure to be great fun for all ages. The dates are: evenings at 7.30 from Tuesday 2nd December to Friday 5th December, plus two matinees on the Saturday at 1.30 and 5.30.

Cinderella is a story that spans generations, and because there are so many great characters in it, it always seems to offer new ways to put the narrative across. There could be no small child, being told the story of poor Cinders, who is not moved to tears. Those dreadful, ugly sisters. The appalling way they treated her. The wicked stepmother and her horrible scheming to keep Cinderella’s father from loving her.

But fairy stories – and certainly pantomimes – have a way of cutting through the tough stuff and bringing hope to the miserable. In Cinders’ case it is a handsome prince, a fairy godmother, a shoe seeking the right sized foot and an impending deadline that will bring everyone down to earth!
