Parking Pays Off

The 15 days of car parking in December/early January organised by Rotary at three sites in Cambridge – the Downing Site on Tennis Court Road, Department of Chemistry on Lensfield Road and Cambridge Assessment Centre on Park Terrace – were a great success. It needed over 250 half day slots of volunteer time to cover the car parks but the reward was many happy customers, Mike Smith reports.

The charge of £6 for a whole day was less than drivers would pay elsewhere, and all the money went to local charities and Rotary projects. The donation was a magnificent £35,800. Cheques were presented to Wintercomfort, Romsey Mill, EACH, Cambridge Dial a Ride, The Guildford Rotary club Eye project, Campod, the Vet School, Pidley Mountain Rescue team and Meldreth Primary School. An amount has been earmarked for hearing loop facilities at Cottenham Community Centre.
