Rampton’s Prize Artist
Chris Dickinson was awarded the May Rainey prize at this year’s Ramparts Alternative RA Summer Exhibition held at Rampton village hall. Her painting, on linen-finish canvas, was entitled simply ‘Abstract’ and caught the eye of the judge Councillor Lynda Harford because of its colours and intriguing pattern. “Each time I looked at it I could see something different,” she said. “It was a difficult to make a choice because there were so many interesting paintings on show. I was very impressed.”
This was the 11th annual exhibition of the local art group organised by artist Rosemary Millar at Rampton. Chris has been a member of the group, Ramparts (a member of the Fen Edge Community Association), for 10 years and was delighted to receive the award named in memory of the wonderful May, who was still painting in the group aged ninety six.
The free exhibition was open to visitors on July 16 and 17. There was a wide range of contemporary and traditional paintings as well as prints, cards and sculptures on sale at reasonable prices.
Ramparts was nominated by South Cambridgeshire District Council for a ‘Wellbeing’ award. “Members do enjoy themselves and it develops our creativity and keeps us active,” Rosemary says. If you would like to join the group contact Rosemary on 01954 252996.
