Willingham Feast 2016
The Willingham Feast 2016 programme is now available to view here. As tradition has it, Willingham Feast is headlined by the Feast Market with Car Boot sale (booked your spot yet??) at Willingham Primary School, Saturday 8th October 10am to 1pm. Attractions include things for the kids to do, burgers, food, drink and craft stalls, plus a Family Photo Shoot with a professional photographer offering reduced sitting fees.
If it’s music and dancing you want, see the exceptional Keith Pierson Trio at the Social Club, top-billing a special Jam Night that starts 7.30pm, Monday 26th September (£2). Then, at the same venue on Saturday 1st October, 8.30pm, you can enjoy a chunk of live tribute rock with Let There B/DC (£8). There’s a Family Disco with DJ Jamie Smith at the Ploughman Hall 6 to 10pm, Saturday 8th October (£10 per family for early birds and £12 for the slow-coaches). Sunday 9th October gives us another chance to enjoy the unique Steve Lockwood Band at the Bank micropub – with shows at noon and 6pm (£15). And to round off the ‘season’, the Social Club is hosting a Soul & Motown Disco on Saturday 15th October, 8.30pm (£5).
Looking for a laugh? Then go for the Custard Comedy kind, Social Club, Friday 7th October (£10). Those who’ve seen it rave about it!
Likely to be very popular: The Old Willingham slide show courtesy of curator Jon Edney with commentaries from Anne Kirkmann, Andrew Cook and Pete Cornish at the Baptist Church (Tabernacle) at 7.30pm on Thursday 6th October. Just £5 on the door. Bring and share your own refreshments.
As an alternative for Saturday 8th there is a Wine Quiz, call-my-bluff style, again at the Social Club with a panel of three experts (one possibly a household name) telling fibs about what you are drinking. It’s ‘All against All’, starts at 7.30pm and costs £20 including the wine and the fabulous Cat’s Whiskers to dance to in the final hour. With drinks also available at the bar, it’ll be a great night out!
Planning a walk around Willingham at Feast weekend? Then why not take part in the Family Book Hunt? Get entry forms from the Library or contact us at the email address below. Combine it with the Family Treasure Hunt featuring prizes including a meal voucher for the Duke of Wellington. And take part in the Girl Guide’s Bush Craft Session at the QEII play park starting 3pm – both on Saturday. There’s the Octagon Art Group’s Art Exhibition at the school Saturday morning (8th) to coincide with the Feast Market and then at the library Sunday afternoon (9th)
1 to 4pm to coincide with the Salvation Army Concert on the adjacent Green. The concert is followed by a Witness March to the Church where tea is served, and then a Joint Service at 6pm in St. Mary’s, again led by the Salvation Army band. Finally, on your hike, don’t forget to take in the Photography Display, Public Hall 12 to 5pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
If walking is not your thing, how about a Social Bike Ride for some lunchtime refreshments at St. Ives? Sunday 9th October, meet at Willingham Green 11am.
Providing a focus for all the above, Thurstons Funfair will open on Willingham Green on Thursday 6th, continuing through to Saturday 8th October.
Hope there’s something there for you – visitors from out of town welcome!
