Willingham Youth Centre now open

Councillor Baird, Chairman SCDC, accompanied by WPC Chairman Councillor Andrew Cook and District Councillor Ray Manning officially opened the new Youth Centre on January 24th, assisted by The Reverend Linda Liversidge and other members of the Willingham Youth Trust (WYT). Tributes were paid to all those who have contributed over the many years of planning and fund raising, especially the Reverend Trevor Rowe, the former Baptist Minister. WYT was formed under his Chairmanship as a development of initiatives taken earlier by the Willingham Action Group. Also to Caroline Hyde who has worked tirelessly in applying for grants and funding with great success.

The funding for the new building came from 106 development funds held by the Parish Council, SCDC and local donations. Recently the Fen Edge Community Association (FECA) gave a grant towards equipment.

There was an excellent turn out for the event as Willingham celebrated having a Youth Club based in dedicated premises with cakes, hot dogs and popcorn on offer plus refreshments. Youth Club evenings run on Wednesday 6.30-8.30pm and Thursday 6.30-8pm during term times, for ages 11–16, with a varied programme provided by our trained youth workers. New members welcome.
