Cambridgeshire Geological Society – Saturday 8 October Guided Walk

Join us for a guided walk on the Fen Edge on Saturday 8th October, from Reach to Burwell (or just through Burwell for a shorter option). Our Chair, Dr Reg Nicholls, will lead the walk, sharing his knowledge of this part of the fen edge with you, particularly about the local quarrying of Chalk and the springs that emanate from the famous Totternhoe Stone. You will visit two Local Geological Sites in Burwell.

Brief details on the attached poster. All welcome, free (donations welcome) but you need to book, by replying to this email. Full details of timing and distance on the webpage, meeting place and exact timings will be sent after booking: http://www.fenedgetrail.org/

Please share the poster with others if possible e.g. by your facebook page, and, if you are on twitter, you might like to follow us @fenedgetrail or @cambsgeology and share our recent tweet about it.

You will also see, on the webpage, the news of the Walk Guide for the walk from Castle Hill, Cambridge to the Sedgwick Museum which was published this summer. This is a lovely walk showing the landscape of Cambridge as a background to its rich cultural heritage. Thanks to Martin for designing the walk. As usual, the Guide can be downloaded for free from the website.

We will be publishing more Walk Guides in the next few months, including the next one designed by Jeff, from Haddenham to Wilburton, and the first by each of our two Pauls, Sawtry to Woodwalton by Paul S and Somersham to Earith by Paul M, plus Dorothy’s walk through Thorney! With more on their way after. We hope to organise guided walks at some stage on a few of these and others already published.
